In the end, the image froze on the girl's tragic death. She died with her eyes wide open, her face pale, every

feature screaming with hatred and regret. And then, Hailey saw the face.

Hailey’s breath caught as realization struck her. She thought, “That... is me!”

She braced herself against the wall, breathing heavily, her body slowly collapsing.

The memories kept flooding in, more vivid now-memories not just of herself, but of Selena and a man. The two

of them grinned smugly in front of her, while she stood there, helpless and broken.

Selena and Rose were now too absorbed in the sight of the safes to notice much else. They had never imagined

that beneath this villa lay such a treasure trove of gold and silver.

The Dalton family was one of the four great families, and although Rose had enjoyed a life of material comfort

ever since marrying into it, seeing so many safes filled with wealth was a first. The sight of it made Selena and

Rose’s eyes widen.

Selena thought, ‘So, the Dalton family is this wealthy. Just Aiden alone has this much wealth! All the luxury we've

been living on is nothing but a drop in the ocean.

Selena, lost in her thoughts, suddenly glanced at Hailey. It was then that she noticed something was off.

Selena stepped toward Hailey, calling her nwith suspicion in her voice.

Hailey’s mind was in chaos. It felt like a door had been opened, and every fragmented memory had rushed to

the surface. It overwhelmed her, and her head throbbed painfully.

“What's wrong with her?” Rose asked in a hushed tone as she approached.

Selena shook her head. “I'm not sure.”

A pause lingered before Selena’s lips curled into a cold, smug smile. She lifted her chin, satisfaction glimmering

in her eyes. “But it seems like she’s not doing well at all.”

Raphael had been waiting outside for a while, increasingly worried when Hailey hadn't cout. He tried calling,

but no one picked up. A sense of urgency began to rise within him.

Just then, a car pulled up beside him. At first, he didn’t pay much attention, but then he heard Owen's low, cold

voice cut through the air, “Is Hailey at the Dalton mansion?”

Raphael looked up, stunned momentarily, then realized the Calhoun mansion was next door to the Dalton

mansion. Seeing Owen here made sense.

“Mr. Calhoun,” Raphael called out, then added, “This isn’t any of your concern, is it?".

Owen didn’t acknowledge him. He pushed open the car door and stepped out, heading directly for the Dalton

mansion. Raphael straightened up and followed suit.

The housekeeper opened the door, her expression flustered when she saw Owen. “Mr. Calhoun,” she greeted

him.

Without missing a beat, Owen walked inside.

The living room was empty except for a few servants. “Where is Mrs. Dalton?” Owen asked.

Raphael asked, “What about the young lady who just entered?”

The housekeeper opened her mouth but couldn’t get the words out.

It was then that Raphael sensed something was wrong. The usually composed man rushed forward, grabbing the

housekeeper’s shoulders with a fierce grip, his expression unraveling. “Tell me, now!”

The housekeeper, unable to hold back, glanced toward the stairs.

Raphael and Owen immediately sprinted in the direction she indicated, and soon, they found the basement

staircase, which was left ajar.

They descended one after the other. The basement was eerily silent.

As they reached the bottom, they saw Hailey lying in a pool of blood, and both Selena and Rose were

unconscious beside her.

Owen's face went pale. His temples throbbed painfully as memories from two years ago flooded his mind-

Hailey’s car accident right in front of him. There was blood-so much blood-sprawled across the floor in a pool of

crimson.

Owen's body shook uncontrollably. That accident had left a lasting trauma on him.

Raphael noticed Owen's distress but had no tto address it. His forehead was tense as his grip on the phone

tightened, his fingers pressing down on 911 so forcefully it felt like the device might crack under the pressure.

He dialed emergency services, giving them the address with trembling fingers. After hanging up, he rushed to

Hailey, desperate to pull her from the bloodied floor.

She must have hit her forehead, crashing into the wall-there was a clear bloodstain on the wall. Her forehead

had a gaping wound.

At that moment, as she lay there, the only other people present were Selena and Rose, which meant, logically,

only they could have done this to her.

The thought alone filled Owen with a violent rage.

His mind was slowly clearing, but his eyes remained bloodshot with fury. He couldn't wait for the ambulance any

longer- the blood was still pouring from her head, pooling on the floor beneath her. At this rate, she would be in

danger of losing her life.

Without hesitation, Owen crouched down, his hands trembling as he lifted Hailey from the ground.

“Owen,” Raphael called after him.

Owen didn’t break his stride, carrying her out of the basement.

Raphael rushed to keep up, and for the first time, Raphael and Owen didn’t argue. One drove, the other held

Hailey, as they sped to the hospital.

Hailey was rushed into surgery.

Outside the operating room, there was an eerie silence.

Raphael, a doctor himself, was usually the picture of calm. He never smoked, never drank.

But now, as the tension stretched on, he broke the silence. “Owen, you got a cigarette?”

Owen stood by the wall, his head slightly bowed, his face as cold and silent as stone.

He had cigarettes in his pocket-he smoked rarely, especially since Hailey had hated the smell of smoke. But in

the last two years, whenever his thoughts of her kept him awake at night, restless and frustrated, the cigarettes

had been his only solace.

Since hearing she had returned, though, he had hardly smoked at all.

With a quick, emotionless motion, he tossed a cigarette to Raphael,

“Thanks,” Raphael murmured, his voice tight with gratitude and anxiety.

Raphael walked to the window, the designated smoking area. He lit a cigarette, but the taste was unfamiliar to

him. After two puffs, he tossed it away.

Raphael took a deep breath, the weight of his words hanging in the air. “I spent two years by her side, doing

everything 1 could, but | never reached her heart. Then you show up, and she’s drawn to you just like that,

Owen, | hate to admit it, but I'm jealous of you.”

“I've known her for much longer than you think. Our first meeting wasn’t the one she believes it was Raphael

chuckled, his eyes flicking to Owen. “I always thought we were fated, but in the end, | was wrong.”

Owen's expression remained icy, his voice cutting through the air like a blade. “I'm not interested in your

problems”

Raphael's lips curled into a sardonic smile. “I was jealous, yes. But now, Owen, | feel sorry for you.

Owen's gaze flicked up to him, the weight of the words hanging between them. Raphael's profile was bathed in

shadow, his voice almost gentle. “No matter if she regains her memory, you'll never be with her.”

Owen stood up, walking toward him with a dark intensity in his eyes, his steps deliberate, as if he were about to

strike. Without warning, he raised his hand and slapped Raphael across the face.

Raphael stumbled back, his hand wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. He caught his balance and

stood up. sneering. “If you don’t believe me, just wait and see.”

Owen clenched his fist, ready to strike again, but before he could move, the light in the operating room flickered

and then

went out.
