Chapter 157

Hailey joked, “Isn't this all for you? Don’t you want Raphael?”

“Don’t try to dodge the point. Yes, | want Raphael, but how could I still think about that if you two get together?”

Scarlett shot her an exasperated look. “The truth is, you don’t want to settle. You're still holding onto the one

you care about.”

“And you don’t like Raphael,” Scarlett continued, studying Hailey intently. “You and | are the same, Hailey. We

don’t want to settle for someone just because they're good enough. We won't force ourselves if they're not the

one we want.”

Hailey bit her lip, glancing over at Raphael in the kitchen, his back turned as he worked. She took a long breath,

nodding slowly, admitting to Scarlett’s words.

“You still haven't told me-do you like Owen?” Scarlett suddenly asked.

At that, Hailey frowned slightly, gathering her thoughts before answering, “I'm not sure how to explain it.”

“Hmm?”

“I don’t mind being close to him, and... | find myself drawn to him,” Hailey admitted, her hand instinctively

touching her chest as her heart fluttered slightly at the thought of Owen.

Scarlett laughed softly, playfully brushing her fingers across Hailey’s cheek. “That's love, you know. If you feel

strongly about him, why not just tell him?”

Hailey let out a heavy sigh, lowering her gaze. “Scarlett, Aiden toldthat Owen and | might be... related by

blood.”

Scarlett’s eyes widened in disbelief, and after a long pause, she couldn't help but laugh incredulously. “This is

straight out of a soap opera.”

Hailey gave a bitter, resigned smile. “Yeah, it's pretty absurd. Who could have predicted this?”

Hailey thought, ‘Who could imagine that the person I'm falling for might be my brother?’

“Is there any concrete proof?” Scarlett asked, her brow furrowed.

Hailey shook her head. “Not yet.”

“Then why not get a DNA test? No matter what Aiden says, you should confirm it. And does Owen know about

this?” Scarlett’s tone was practical, as always.

Hailey looked away, her expression clouded. “He doesn’t know.”

“Then you

should tell him. You can’t keep this from him forever. It's something you both need to address.” Scarlett’s voice

was firm, detached, and filled with the cool logic of an outsider.

But Hailey had more to worry about. She bit her lip, shaking her head. “No, | don’t want him to know.”

“I've lost my memories,” she continued softly. “I still feel something for Owen, but I'll forget with time. He,

though... he seems like he likes me.”

Scarlett sighed tically, propping her chin in her hand. “So, what are you going to do?”

Hailey glanced towards Raphael, who was busy in the kitchen. “Raphael has a plan.”

Scarlett followed her gaze, her eyebrows rising slightly. She thought, ‘Raphael will do anything to win Hailey over.

If Hailey knows what Raphael is after, she probably won't forgive him."

Even 1, as an outsider, can see his true intentions. Hailey only sees Raphael as the closest person to her, second

only to Aiden. She's too reluctant to dig any deeper

‘After all, Raphael's been putting in the effort for over two years, and it’s not fake. Whether it's Owen or Raphael,

as long as Hailey’s willing, | won't oppose it-no matter the method, as long as they're sincere about treating her

right.

“Lunch’s ready,” Raphael called out from the kitchen.

Scarlett nodded in acknowledgment and pulled Hailey toward the dining room.

The three of them enjoyed a pleasant meal together. Throughout the meal, Hailey remained quiet, while Scarlett

took the lead in conversation and engaged Raphael in light banter.

Though Raphael seemed uninterested, he responded politely, maintaining his gentlemanly demeanor.

After lunch, Scarlett excused herself to the bathroom, claiming she needed to remove her makeup and take a

nap.

That left only Hailey and Raphael in the dining room. Raphael stood up, gathered the empty plates, and walked

into the kitchen, wiping his hands on a towel.

Hailey handed him a glass of water. “You didn’t have to call the way here. Scarlett and | can order whatever

we want.”

Raphael smiled lightly, raising his hand as if to touch her, but then seemed to think better of it and withdrew. “I

know both of you too well. You're both hopeless regarding cooking-only capable of ordering takeout. But too

much takeout isn’t good for your health,”

Hailey smiled back at him.

Suddenly, Raphael's expression darkened, his eyes growing serious. He lifted his hand and, unable to resist,

gently ran his fingers through her hair. “Hailey, you do have feelings for Owen, don’t you?”

Hailey’s smile faltered, her breath catching as she slowly sank into the chair, pressing her hands to her forehead.

“Sorry,” Raphael murmured.

“It’s not your fault,” Hailey said, her voice tinged with sadness. “Raphael, can | do anything to recover my

memories faster?”

Hailey thought, I've been lost since | lost my memories. It’s like this huge gap in my mind, something so

important, and | can’t even remember it. | don’t know what I'm supposed to be doing anymore.

“The doctor said that spending twith someone you used to know and visiting places you used to go might

help trigger smemories. But if it causes pain, you shouldn't dwell on it too long, it could hurt your brain.”

“Raphael, will you cwithto see my family tomorrow?” she asked suddenly.

Raphael studied her for a moment, then nodded. “Okay.”

The next day, Raphael arrived early at Hailey’s apartment. Scarlett was still asleep, and Hailey left breakfast

before heading

out,

Raphael drove her to the gates of the Dalton mansion.

Hailey stepped out of the car, her gaze falling on the entrance to the Dalton mansion. The grand gates were

shut, and the mansion beyond them appeared grand and imposing, its opulence evident from the outside.

She had no recollection of this place, not even the faintest sense of familiarity.

The heavy gates suddenly swung open from the inside. A girl, dressed in a fitted red skirt and carrying a purse,

stepped out. Her eyes widened in shock as they landed on Hailey, her expression freezing in disbelief, as if she'd

just seen a ghost.

Hailey walked toward her, her gaze as cold and sharp as marble. “Aren’t you going to invitein?” she asked,

not betraying any recognition of the girl before her.

Selena trembled uncontrollably. A year ago, Aiden had brought her back from abroad. As the eldest daughter of

the Dalton family, and with her mother still the matriarch, she was used to getting her way. She had returned to

live as the pampered heiress, enjoying every moment.

After all, Selena was still the eldest daughter of the Dalton family. Rose, still holding the position of matriarch,

had a fair amount of influence. She had returned, content to embrace her role as the family’s princess and live a

life of comfort and luxury.

When Selena had heard that Hailey had died in a car accident, she had nearly laughed herself awake from the

sweet dream. Selena thought, ‘Is this a ghost standing before me?‘

Selena couldn't hold back a scream, stumbling in her heels and crashing to the ground.

“What happened, Miss Dalton?” The housekeeper rushed out from inside.

The Dalton family had hired a new housekeeper, so she didn’t recognize Hailey. Seeing the poised, striking young

woman before her, a flicker of admiration crossed her eyes. “Excuse me, who are you?”
