Chapter 156

Kaphael heard the faint hitch in Hailey’s voice and spoke softly, “Don’t cry, Go wash up and get ssleep.

Soon, everything

will be back to normal?

Hailey nodded, whispering a soft thank you before hanging up the phone,

She crouched by the window, her face pale, eyes red from crying.

Downstairs, Owen sat in his car, smoking. He hadn't moved for hours-seven or eight at least. He was a stone,

unmoving and distant, as if he were determined to wait for her to cdown.

Hailey sat there, drinking alone, the alcohol mixing with her growing fatigue until, by | AM, she succumbed to

sleep.

When she woke, the sky was already light, the morning sun pouring in. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and rushed

to the window to look down

The car was gone.

Hailey exiled a quiet sigh of relief. She thought, “Thank God. At least he didn’t spend the whole night waiting like

an idiot

The hangover hit her with full force, a throbbing headache making her wince. Hailey massaged her temples and

got up to head for the bathroom.

As soon as she finished washing up, her phone rang. It was Scarlett. She thought, “This early?

“Scarlett, what's up?” Hailey answered, still groggy

“Hailey, can 1 stay with you for a while?” Scarlett’s voice cthrough the phone, sounding hoarse and

exhausted.

Hailey was momentarily taken aback. “Sure, but is everything alright? What happened?”

Scarlett sighed, but didn’t elaborate, simply muttering a soft thank you in response.

“I'll cover and help you move in a bit,” Hailey offered.

“No need,” Scarlett replied, “I'll pack up a few things. Just sendyour address”

“Alright, I'll wait for you to cover”

Since Scarlett was coming over, Hailey told Raphael they wouldn't be having lunch together,

By 10 AM, Scarlett had arrived.

She wore a light purple tank top and denim shorts, and her long, fair legs were strikingly contrasted. She had

done her makeup meticulously and looked effortlessly put together.

Despite saying she didn’t have much to bring, Scarlett’s suitcase was packed to the brim.

Scarlett was on the phone when Hailey opened the door to greet her. Her red lips moved with every word she

spoke, effortlessly charming, yet the conversation was anything but sweet. “I don’t want to be responsible, so

what?

Sleeping with you doesn’t mean | like you. Stop chasing me. How is it that a guy can’t let go more than | can?

Graham, listen. closely, this is the last tI'll say it | don’t like you. Sleeping with you had nothing to do with

feelings.”

“Scarlett, I've been with you for so long, and if you're not going to take responsibility, then I guess I will,”

Graham's voice on the other end of the line was calm, almost gentle.

Scarlett rolled her eyes in frustration and hung up the phone. She was getting fed up!

Hailey couldn't help but chuckle at the scene. “Did Graham show up at your place?”

Scarlett dragged her suitcase inside, clearly annoyed, and nodded.

Hailey took the suitcase and wheeled it to the guest room before grabbing a soda from the fridge and tossing it

to her. “Looks like he’s serious about you, Scarlett. Honestly, you could give it a try.”

“Not a chance,” Scarlett said, sipping the cold soda. “A man like that? Please, I'm not interested. Besides, | have

no intention of getting married. Even if | were to date, it wouldn't be him.”

“Well, what about living alone forever? Won't it get lonely?”

Scarlett smirked. “Living solo is freedom, no rules, no strings. Why would | be lonely? By the end of this year, I'm

quitting my job, traveling, living off my savings, and spending sof it to start a business. When I hit thirty or

forty, Ill open a store and live a steady life. Doesn’t that sound great?”

It did sound appealing, even to Hailey.

“Besides, can you trust a man? Marriage means responsibility, and then kids... | haven't even lived my own life

properly yet. Why should | take on someone else’s? Graham is a notorious playboy. Whether he’s turned a new

leaf is anyone’s guess. | won't bet my future on a guy like him.”

Scarlett’s face was a perfect mix of annoyance and frustration-clearly, she wasn’t interested in Graham. She was

as cold and detached as ever.

For a man as handsome, charming, and wealthy as Graham to humble himself and pursue a woman so

relentlessly... most women would be swept off their feet.

Yet Scarlett wasn’t one of them. A reformed bad boy didn’t move her; it wasn’t a matter of pride-it was just who

she was.

Rational, detached, and captivating in her way.

It seemed that if Graham ever hoped to win Scarlett over, he’d have to work harder than he ever imagined... and

maybe, just maybe, he’d never get the chance.

“So, where's your Raphael?” Scarlett asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Stop calling him my Raphaelin e

shot her a glare. “You should learn how to speak properly.”

“Alright. Where's Raphael, then? | haven't seen him in forever. This guy’s been dodginglike crazy. What, am |

that intimidating? All | want is one night, what's the big deal?” Scarlett laughed, tapping her cheek. “Do | look

that bad?”

Hailey nearly choked on her drink. “Scarlett, seriously, not everyone's a creep. And if you're ugly, then there's no

hope for

anyone

else.”

Scarlett grinned, pleased with herself, and draped an arm around Hailey’s shoulder. “At least you know how to

flatter me. Guess I'll have to sleep with you tonight.”

Hailey feigned shock. “You do swing both ways?”

Scarlett grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “What, didn’t you

know?”

The two of them tumbled around for a while before the doorbell rang.

Hailey jumped up from the couch and walked to the door. She peeked through the peephole to see who it was.

When Hailey saw it was Raphael at the door, she finally opened it.

“Hey, Raphael. Long tno see. Are you feeling the urge to sleep withtoday?” Scarlett lay lazily on the

couch, her smile seductive and teasing.

Raphael's expression remained distant, a slight headache forming. He had long grown used to Scarlett’s

boldness, but it still left him feeling awkward every time.

“Miss Hardy, it's been a while,” Raphael replied politely.

“Ugh, still so formal. How boring,” Scarlett rolled her eyes tically.

Raphael handed Hailey the bag of snacks and groceries. “I thought you two might be hanging out, so | brought

sfood. By the way, have you eaten lunch yet?”

Hailey was about to say they'd eaten, but Scarlett said, “Nope, we haven't. Raphael, why don’t you cook for us?

I've heard you're great in the kitchen, and I've been dying to try your cooking.”

Raphael nodded dutifully, “I haven't eaten yet either. You two chat, I'll get started in the kitchen.”

Hailey sighed in resignation, sitting with the snacks, giving Scarlett a long, exasperated look.

“Hailey, stop looking atlike that, or | might fall for you,” Scarlett winked mischievously.

Hailey pinched her cheek, murmuring. “You know | don’t want to trouble Raphael.”

“Then you toldto give Graham a chance, but why not try giving Raphael a chance?” Scarlett’s playful grin

faded, her face growing serious as she spoke.
