Raphael pressed the accelerator, and the car shot forward. The vehicle behind them quickly followed suit,
pushing the pedal down to keep pace.
Raphael, usually composed, had a sharp glint in his eyes now. The two cars-one white, one black-sped down the
wide road. Thankfully, there wasn’t much traffic; otherwise, things could've gone south instantly.
As they approached a traffic light, Raphael slowed his car. The black car behind them stopped right beside him
with perfect precision.
Both men lowered their windows. Owen's cold gaze flicked to Hailey, his eyes piercing through her. She felt a
flutter of unease under his gaze, and she instinctively gripped the seatbelt, avoiding his stare.
“Mr. Calhoun, do you have nothing better to do?” Raphael asked, his voice cold.
Owen smiled faintly, his voice low. “I suppose I've got tto spare.”
Raphael raised an eyebrow. “Mr. Calhoun, a man of your status, clinging to us like a stray dog-don’t you think
that’s beneath you?”
Owen raised an eyebrow, a faint smirk playing at the corner of his lips. “Oh? Did Mr. Park buy this road? Since
when can you go where others can’t?”
Raphael's expression hardened, his tone icy. “I've never encountered someone so shameless.”
Owen chuckled lightly, rolling up his window without another word.
Hailey couldn't help but cover her face, suppressing a laugh. She glanced at Raphael, noticing his tense
expression. She quickly held back her amusement.
There was no way they were losing him now, so with a sigh, Raphael eased off the accelerator and steered the
car toward a nearby restaurant. Of course, Owen followed right behind.
The three of them walked into the restaurant, one after the other. Owen settled into the table next to Raphael,
his demeanor calm and collected, the cool that made you want to march over and knock that smug look off his
face.
Raphael handed Hailey the menu. She ordered a steak and a vegetable salad, while Raphael opted for a simple

Hailey lifted her gaze, a hint of surprise in her eyes. “Aren't you eating?”
Raphael's expression darkened slightly. “No, I'm not hungry.”
Hailey bit her lip, glancing over at Owen, who had ordered with remarkable elegance. He even looked over at
them, smiling warmly in her direction.
Hailey lowered her head quietly.
Well, it seemed like Owen so riled up Raphael that he couldn't even eat.
When the waiter brought the steak, Raphael picked at his fruit platter and drank swater, but didn’t touch his
food.
When Hailey finished her steak, he broke the silence, his voice calm yet pointed. “Hailey, you know there’s no
future between you and him.”
Hailey lowered her eyes, setting her glass down, her fingers tracing the cup’s rim as she slowly nodded.

“If you want to get rid of him, you'll need to start seeing someone else.”
Hailey blinked, momentarily taken aback, before lifting her head to meet Raphael's gaze.

Raphael gave her a soft smile. “He’s just stubborn, Hailey. With his status, Owen can have any woman he wants.
The real issue is his pride-he can’t stand that you've moved on and are avoiding him. But once you're with
someone else, give it time, and he'll realize there's nothing left between you two.”
Hailey bit her lip, torn between what she wanted and what was needed. Truth be told, she didn’t want to go
down that path. It would only drag another innocent person into this mess. She'd rather confront the truth head-
on.
“If you're afraid of dragging someone else into this, | can help,” Raphael said, calm but insistent.
Hailey looked up, meeting his gaze. She hesitated for a long moment before shaking her head. “I need more
tto think.”
Raphael didn’t press her further, simply nodding. “But if you keep letting this drag on, the only ones who'll end
up hurt are both of you.”
The words hit her like a punch to the gut, leaving her momentarily speechless.
After lunch, Raphael dropped Hailey off at her apartment. Once inside, she quickly locked the door behind him.
She sank into the couch, her mind overwhelmed by what Aiden had said over the phone. The headache was
nearly
unbearable.
Hailey thought, ‘If only | didn’t feel anything for Owen...
Hailey couldn't help but wonder if it was the remnants of her old feelings still lingering inside her, or if, in just a
few short days, she’d truly found herself falling for Owen. Either way, when she looked at him, the words she
needed to say just wouldn't cout.
Hailey thought, ‘What am | supposed to do?"
Hailey slumped onto the couch, momentarily wishing she could disappear from the world altogether.
Hailey lay there for what felt like hours, the afternoon slipping away until nearly 4 PM, the setting sun casting a
warm glow across the room.
She finally got up, grabbed a bottle of soda, and walked over to the window. As she reached for the curtains, her
eyes casually flicked down to the street below, and there Owen was-his tall, lean silhouette standing just
outside.
An unbelievable thought crossed her mind. Hailey thought, ‘Could Owen be standing right beneath my window,
waiting for
me?”
It was as if Owen sensed her gaze, for he immediately looked up and locked eyes with her. Hailey immediately
pulled back, her heart pounding in her chest. She thought, “There's no way he could seefrom this distance.
She pulled the curtains shut and collapsed onto the soft couch, starting a gto distract herself. She played
until 9 PM, finally stretching her sore neck before deciding to wear a face mask and call it a night.
Before heading to the bathroom, Hailey found herself again drawn to the window, looking down below. The
Bentley was still parked below, but no sign of him. The headlights were on-maybe he was waiting in the car.
Hailey took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the situation, and closed her eyes in.frustration.

Hailey opened her mouth, but no words cout.
The cold moonlight streamed through the window, casting her in a soft, solitary glow.
“If you're willing,” Raphael continued, his voice gentle, “I can help you stage this whole thing. Don’t worry, |

His words were so tender, so full of care, that Hailey’s eyes stung with unshed tears.
She felt terrible for what she was putting him through.
